In Loving Memory of

DUNCAN FRASER FELL

the dearly beloved son of

JAMES and AGNES FELL,

who died at North Arm, January 31st 1900

aged 4 years and 6 months.

Deeply mourned

Tender shepherd Thou has still'd
Now Thy little lamb's brief weeping
Oh how peaceful, pale and mild
In its narrow bed 'tis sleeping
And no sick or anguish sore
Heaves that little bosom more.

gravestone

DISCUSSION: This photograph appears in an old album of the RUDD family, Río Gallegos. It is annotated simply "Falkland Islands". However, the place of death (North Arm) is ambiguous, because that name is associated with the FELL family both in the Falklands and in Magallanes, Chile [known locally as Brazo Norte]. Since the FELLs moved to the Mainland in 1901, while this child died in 1900, it is believed that this memorial is located somewhere in the Islands.

NOTE: The verse is adapted from Catherine Winkworth's poem "On the death of a LIttle Child".
