b. 1875 Uderwangen, East Prussia; son of Carl Frederick KAHNERT & Augusta Theresa ESTORCK [or STORCK or ESTORCH or STORCH]; mechanical engineer; c1889 first visit to Chile; c1891 return to Chile, employed at Mina Loreto, Punta Arenas (property of José Menéndez); 1892 piloted ship "Amadeo" (newly purchased by Menéndez) from Liverpool to Punta Arenas; 1898 travelled from Liverpool to Punta Arenas with wife; 1924 arriving passenger at New York, coming from Valparaíso; d. 1937 Santiago de Chile; bur. 1937 Cementerio General, Santiago
