William Alfred [or Alfred William] SCOTT; b. c1848 Britain; said to be uncle of Annie Maria SCOTT and Charles SCOTT; mechanic; c1877 Peru, railway contractor; 1879 (during War of the Pacific, between Peru and Chile) captured by Chilean Navy while preparing to launch a torpedo attack on behalf of Peru; c1880[?] to Punta Arenas; merchant; employed his niece Annie Maria as housekeeper; later, encouraged several of her siblings to emigrate to Magallanes (their father had died c1891, leaving a numerous family); d. 1919
