William DICKIE

b. 1861 Old Meldrum, Aberdeenshire; son of Charles DICKIE, wine merchant, & Mary Wood WILDGOOSE; studied for Protestant ministry; abandoned studies and turned shepherd, working in northeast Scotland; 1886 employed by Falkland Islands Company; 1893 worked at Hill Cove for HOLMESTEAD & BLAKE; moved to Magallanes; 1899 to Río Gallegos; at Punta Loyola, farm manager for HAMILTON & SAUNDERS; 1903 with George DREW (b. 1871 Aldbourne, 1891 to Patagonia with WALDRON & WOOD; d. 1947) founded Ea. Bon Accord and Ea. Quien Sabe (of Dr. Mateo BENCUR), Lago Argentino; 1909 formed Ea. El Mosquito; established ferry across Río Santa Cruz; 1911 Río Gallegos, founder member of British Club; 1922 member of Liga Patriótica Argentina; d. 1923 at Bon Accord; buried on the estancia; reference letters
